Guidelines for Authors

Manuscript Preparation Guidelines

Submitted manuscripts to the International Journal of Health Sciences and Engineering (IJHSE) should adhere to the fundamental standards for clarity and readability to ensure proper interpretation by the editorial team. Manuscripts that do not meet these guidelines will be returned to the authors for revision.

Article Types & Format

The journal publishes a variety of article types across multidisciplinary fields, including health sciences, engineering, technology, and policy studies. The following are the primary article types and their format requirements:

Original/Research Articles

These articles present unpublished data and provide in-depth details of methods, methodologies, and investigation results. Evidence should be provided to support the findings.

Sections typically include:

Introduction: Identifies the research aim and objectives.

Methods: Describes applied methods, study design, data collection methods, and participant selection.

Results: Presents findings clearly and with supporting evidence.

Conclusions: Discusses the implications for various fields, such as healthcare, technology, or engineering applications

Review Articles

Comprehensive literature reviews that evaluate significant research topics in one or more fields, examining trends and progress in the respective disciplines over time.

Case Reports

Describes clinical or field-based case studies across various disciplines, offering insights into novel cases, unique findings, or specific applications, often with a focus on healthcare and technology.

Editorials

Short articles, typically written by editors or invited contributors, that provide insight into important interdisciplinary topics or recent developments in health, engineering, or science.

Commentaries

Articles that discuss specific research topics or ongoing challenges within multidisciplinary fields, suggesting potential solutions or future research directions.

Corrigendum

Articles that rectify errors or provide corrections for previously published work to ensure the integrity of the information.

Expert Opinion

Articles written by leading experts in health sciences, engineering, or related disciplines, providing opinions or recommendations that promote further research, theory development, or technology advancement.

Letters to the Editor

Letters addressed to the Editor-in-Chief, offering feedback, commentary, or critique regarding published articles or discussing issues of interest to the journal’s audience.

Perspective Articles

Personal viewpoints on important issues within the scope of the journal, offering innovative ideas or perspectives across disciplines such as engineering, health, or social sciences.

Manuscript Structure

Cover Letter, Title Page, Abstract and Keywords, Abbreviations, Manuscript Text, Figures and Tables, Conflicts of Interest, Acknowledgments, References.

Cover Letter

A letter addressed to the Editor-in-Chief or Special Issue editor, including:

  • Article title.
  • Reasons for choosing IJHSE for publication.
  • Statement of submission agreement (no multiple or duplicate submissions).
  • Conference presentation details (if applicable).
  • Article type and relevance to previous submissions.

Title Page

The title page should contain:

  • Full article title (maximum 130 characters).
  • Running title (maximum 75 characters).
  • List of authors with institutional affiliations.
  • Corresponding author’s contact details.
  • Clinical trial registry or funding/grant details (if applicable).
  • Manuscript word count.

Abstract and Keywords

A concise abstract (maximum 300 words) outlining:

  • Rationale and objectives of the research.
  • Key findings and conclusions.
  • 3-5 keywords listed alphabetically.

Manuscript Text

Manuscript text should be organized according to article type and study requirements, with references indicated by superscripted numbers.

Figures and Tables

  • Figures and tables must be numbered in the order they are cited in the text.
  • Tables should be placed after the references section.
  • Figures should be submitted as separate high-resolution files (.jpg or .png).
  • Figure legends must be clear, with detailed explanations of parts of the figure and reference numbers.

Acknowledgments

Acknowledge individuals or groups who did not meet authorship criteria but contributed significantly, including funding sources, medical writing experts, and conference details (if applicable).

References

  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of all references.
  • List references on a separate page, double-spaced, and numbered consecutively.
  • Identify references in the text, tables, and figure legends with Arabic numerals in parentheses.
  • Journal names should be abbreviated according to Index Medicus/Medline standards.
  • Unpublished studies should be marked as “in press” with publication status.

Supplementary Materials

Any additional online content or supplementary material should be provided in sections where applicable.

Submission Process

  • Authors should verify that their manuscript fits the scope and theme of IJHSE. For quicker review, submitting an abstract before the full manuscript submission is encouraged.
  • Submissions can be made via the online submission system or through email in .docx or .pdf format.

Manuscript submission should include:

  • Cover letter.
  • Full manuscript.
  • Figures and tables (as separate files).
  • Supplementary materials (if applicable).
  • Submissions must be exclusive to IJHSE and should not be under consideration elsewhere.
  • Authors may suggest external reviewers during the submission process.
  • Manuscripts will undergo an initial quality check for duplicate submissions or plagiarism. Accepted articles will undergo peer review (approximately 4-6 weeks).

By adhering to these guidelines, authors ensure a smooth submission process, improving the likelihood that their work will be accepted for publication in the International Journal of Health Sciences and Engineering (IJHSE).
